Do you ever wonder.... What shoes to wear to the gym? You may even think... Does it matter?
It does matter depending on what your specific goals are. Example: If you’re a heavy lifter, you do not want squishy soles. We need stability! We want to feel grounded, so while the squishy shoes feel good on our feet, we don’t want our heels squishing through our soles.
STABILITY IS KEY!
So lifting shoes should have a stiff sole as well as a heel lift to facilitate stability. The heel lift will help achieve a lower squat for instance.
So, what’s a good shoe for this you ask? CONVERSE, AKA, “ Chuck Taylors” are categorized as a minimalist shoe. They have no arch support and no squishy heels that will crunch under the weight of a heavy barbell and potentially throw you off balance. They are a step above barefoot that NO gym would ever allow.
Whithout being said, if you’re going to be jumping around doing aerobics or running, you do want some arch support and squishy ness .
So next time you’re shopping for shoes for the gym, think about what you might be doing at the gym.
